All existing multiple dwellings shall have a fire alarm system which meets the requirements of this section:
A. 
Smoke detectors shall be installed in all common corridors and stairways.
B. 
Smoke detectors shall be installed in each dwelling unit with a minimum of one detector for each habitable level of the dwelling unit. Installation shall comply with Standard 72E of the National Fire Protection Association.
C. 
Smoke detectors shall be installed in all basement levels that are used for storage, laundry facilities, etc., or where furnace equipment is located.
D. 
Battery power is permitted if the detection device is equipped with an audible alarm to indicate low voltage in the battery.
All existing multiple dwellings shall be in total compliance with this chapter within 12 months of its adoption.
Any and all persons who shall violate any provisions of this chapter or fail to comply therewith shall, for each offense, forfeit and pay to and for the use of the Village of Brockport a penalty in the sum of $500.
