Editor's Note: See N.J.S.A. 34:19-1 et seq.
Violation of ethical standards or applicable law or regulation will subject an employee to discipline, including possible termination. Appropriate disciplinary measures will depend on the circumstances involved, including whether or not the violation was willful, as well as the level of good faith shown by the employee in either reporting the violation or in cooperating with any investigation or corrective action.
All criminal acts must be reported to the Dumont Police Department or the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office. Each and every sworn law enforcement officer having knowledge of a criminal act by another sworn Dumont law enforcement officer, regardless of position or rank, must report the violation of law to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.
No employee shall be subject to retaliation for reporting a suspected violation in good faith. The Borough of Dumont will take disciplinary action against any supervisory employee who retaliates against another employee for such a report. In addition, department heads will be held accountable for violations by employees under their supervision if they have reason to know a violation is committed or possibly committed.
If you believe that you or another employee, regardless of position or rank, has violated the Code of Conduct, you have an obligation to report the matter immediately. You should report the violation in writing to the next level of management or the Borough Administrator's Office. Prompt reporting enables the Borough of Dumont to address the issue swiftly and reduce any adverse impact on the person(s) involved.
