As used in this article, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
SPECIAL RUBBISH
Includes the following: household appliances (washers, dryers, refrigerators, old water tanks, toasters, irons and like items), furniture (sofas, chairs, lawn chairs, tables and like items). Acceptable materials are white goods (stoves, washers, dryers, refrigerators, etc.); television sets, portable or console; furniture; carpet and rugs; metal sheds (broken down small); lawn furniture; nonriding mowers; small auto parts; old books; book cases; barbecue grills (tanks removed); home office furniture; small appliances; toys, clothing and tools; home accessories; old doors, windows, etc.; children's pools; hot-water heaters; small fixtures; cabinets, dressers, mirrors, etc. "Special rubbish" shall not include the following: unempty paint cans; pesticides, herbicides, etc.; paint thinners; driveway sealant; hazardous materials; gas or propane canisters; riding mowers and similar equipment; construction materials; auto batteries; leaves and brush; commercial-size freezers; pool chemicals; photo developing chemicals; junk cars or trucks; tree stumps; household food waste; used motor oil; furnaces, fuel tanks, etc.; explosive or flammable materials; items of excessive weight; demolition materials; recyclable materials; car or truck tires.
Special rubbish may be disposed of by complying with the following terms: Upon purchase of a permit from the Township Clerk, a resident or business owner may deposit special rubbish at the curb for pickup by a solid waste hauler hired by the Township on the dates advertised by the Township for the collection of special rubbish.
No special rubbish shall be discarded, dumped, placed or otherwise disposed of in violation of Chapter 253, Littering.
Upon purchase of a permit for the disposal of special rubbish, said permit shall be posted within 15 feet of the public road, either on the special rubbish or other permanent object, e.g., tree, fencepost, gate or other fixed object.
A separate permit shall be purchased from the Township Clerk for each 375 pounds of special rubbish being disposed of. Each property owner or tenant is permitted to dispose of a maximum of 1,500 pounds of special rubbish on each annual special rubbish pickup day. A maximum of four permits may be purchased for each special rubbish pickup day per property owners or tenant.
Penalties may be assessed for the violation of this article as set forth in Chapter 1, Article III, General Penalty, of the Code of the Township of Stillwater.
