[HISTORY: Adopted by the Board of Trustees of the Village of Johnson City 9-2-1975 as L.L. No. 18-1975 (Subpart Q of Part I of the 1973 Code. Amendments noted where applicable.]

There is hereby created the Department of Public Works. The Superintendent of Public Works shall be the head of the Department. All employees assigned thereto shall perform their duties subject to the supervision of the Superintendent.

The Department of Public Works shall have charge of the supervision over the care, maintenance and construction of all streets, sidewalks, alleys and public ways; the construction, operation and maintenance of all stormwater and sanitary sewers; and all street curbs, gutters and drains and the appurtenances thereto. The Department shall also be responsible for garbage and refuse collection, all parks and all other duties assigned to it by the Board of Trustees of the Village of Johnson City and shall equip, operate and maintain all parks and playgrounds.

All physical properties of the village not assigned to some other department or officer shall be and are hereby assigned to the Department of Public Works.
The Superintendent of Public Works shall be custodian of all tools, equipment and other personal property belonging to the village and not assigned to the care of the village or any other public officer.
In the Village of Johnson City, there is hereby created the office of Superintendent of Public Works. Such office shall be in the unclassified service of the civil service.
