Each building used for business or dwelling purposes situate in the Village shall be numbered.
Numbers shall be allotted to all streets and avenues in said Village as follows: One number for each 15 feet of land situate on East and West Main Streets extending westerly to the Village limits and easterly to Maple Avenue, and on North and South Ocean Avenues extending northerly to Lake Street and southerly to Baker Street: and there shall be one number for each 25 feet of land situate on each and every other street or avenue in said Village. All such buildings situate on the south and west sides of the streets or avenues in said Village shall be designated by even numbers, and all such buildings situate on the north and east sides of the streets or avenues in said Village shall be designated by uneven numbers; said numbers on all streets running east and west shall commence at North and South Ocean Avenues, and on all avenues running north and south the said numbers shall commence at East and West Main Streets.
The number or numbers assigned to a parcel of real property shall be conspicuously shown by placement on the principal building situated on the lot. Such numbers shall be placed on the side of the building facing the street upon which the property is situated. In the event that the principal building on a lot is set back more than 50 feet from the street line, the number or numbers shall be placed upon a mailbox, gate post, fence or other appropriate place so that it shall be visible from the street. Numbers on residential buildings shall be not less than three inches in height. Numbers on nonresidential buildings shall be not less than four inches in height. All numbers shall be made of a durable and clearly visible material and shall be in a contrasting color to the building or place upon which it is affixed.

Any person who violates this chapter or fails to comply with any of its requirements shall, upon conviction thereof, be subject to the penalties provided in § 1-1 of the Code of the Village of Patchogue.
