A. 
In no event shall the Town Constables of the Town of Pompey carry firearms relative to their duties. This prohibition against carrying firearms formalizes the informal policy of the Town Board, which has been in effect for numerous years.
B. 
Police Constable. The Town may appoint Police Constables with the right to carry firearms in the performance of their duties. A Police Constable's right to carry firearms shall be limited to the performance of his or her duties within the Justice Court, wherever performed.
A. 
Appropriate training shall be provided by the Town Board to any Constable relative to the duties to be performed.
B. 
Police Constables must be sworn and certified as peace officers in accordance with DCJS 6028.8 and Criminal Procedure Law § 2.30(a). As outlined therein, any and all training requirements must be fulfilled before appointments as Police Constables.
Any individual currently serving as a Town Constable or Police Constable and any individuals who shall be appointed in the future to the position of Town Constable or Police Constable shall sign a statement indicating that they have read the above chapter and agree to be bound by its provisions.
