[HISTORY: Adopted by the Town Board of the
Town of Stanford 12-10-1986 as L.L. No. 6-1986. Amendments noted where

Pursuant to the authority granted by § 20
of the Town Law of the State of New York, the office of Town Sanitarian
is hereby established for the Town of Stanford.
Said office shall consist of the following:
A.
Qualification. The person designated as Town Sanitarian
shall be fully qualified to perform the duties herein mentioned.
B.
Duties.
(1)
Preliminary approval. The Town Sanitarian shall witness
soil tests and perform precolation tests for the installation of septic
systems in conformity with the rules and regulations of the State
of New York prior to issuance of building permits within the Town
of Stanford and, upon approval of such tests, shall issue certificates
of preliminary approval.
(2)
Final approval. Upon completion of installation of
septic systems and before such systems are covered over or hooked
up to any buildings, the Town Sanitarian shall inspect said installations
and, upon approval, shall issue certificates of final approval.
(3)
The Town Sanitarian may require that both preliminary
and final approval be given by a professional engineer when, in his
opinion, the circumstances require such approval or if the proposed
septic system may use in excess of 1,000 gallons a day or be part
of a proposed or existing subdivision or is to be utilized in any
commercial or industrial business.
A.
The Town Sanitarian shall be compensated for services
rendered to the Town of Stanford in such amount as determined from
time to time by the Town Board of the Town of Stanford.
B.
The fee to be paid by the applicant for the building
permit shall be fixed at $75, subject to adjustment from time to time
by the Town Board of the Town of Stanford.
The Town Sanitarian shall serve for an indefinite
term, commencing as of the effective date of this chapter, and be
subject to removal at the pleasure of the Town Board of the Town of
Stanford.
A.
The Town Board of the Town of Stanford shall, by resolution,
designate the Town Sanitarian for the Town of Stanford.
B.
Nothing contained in this chapter shall require the
use of the Town Sanitarian by Town residents. Any resident may retain
the services of a private engineer of his own choice to provide the
certifications called for herein. Furthermore, the Town Sanitarian
may, at his discretion, require that a private engineer be retained
at the expense of the applicant for the building permit.
