[HISTORY: Adopted by the Board of Supervisors of the Township of

Pursuant to Article VIII of the Second Class Township Code, 53 P.S.
§ 65801 et seq., the office of Township Secretary of Lehigh Township
is hereby created.
The office of Township Secretary shall be filled by one person elected
to said office by a majority vote of the Board.
The person elected to the office of Township Secretary shall be subject
to removal by a majority vote of the Board.
A.
The person elected to the office of Township Secretary shall, unless removed in accordance with § 37-3, or unless said person resigns, serve until his successor is elected and qualified.
B.
The Township Secretary need not be a resident of the
Township or of the State of Pennsylvania at the time of his appointment, but
as soon as possible thereafter, he shall become, and during his tenure as
Secretary shall remain, a resident of the Township.
C.
No Board member shall either be appointed as Township
Secretary during the term for which he was elected or appointed a Board member,
or be appointed within one year after the expiration of said term.
A.
The Township Secretary shall act as the Chief Clerk to the Board and shall perform such duties as outlined in Subsection B below and comply with all instructions as issued by the Board of Supervisors.
B.
Subject to modification by majority vote of the Board,
the Township Secretary shall have those duties set forth in 53 P.S. § 65802
of the Second Class Township Code.
The Township Secretary shall also serve as the Treasurer of Lehigh Township
and shall have all powers and duties accruing thereto as set forth in Article
VII of the Second Class Township Code, 53 P.S. § 65701 et seq.
If the Township Secretary is ill, or is absent from the Township, the
Board shall designate a qualified individual to perform the duties of the
Township Secretary during his absence or disability.
The Township Secretary shall post bond with corporate surety to the
Township in the amount established by the Board.
The compensation of the Township Secretary shall be set by resolution
of the Board. Such compensation may include an automatic cost of living increase
set as an annual percentage of salary increase as predetermined each year
by the Board.
