GENERAL REFERENCES

There is hereby established in the Town of Greece, pursuant to the provisions of the Suburban Town Law and the Municipal Home Rule Law of the State of New York, a department to be known as the "Department of Public Works of the Town of Greece."

Said Department shall include the following divisions:
A. 
Sewer.
B. 
Water.
C. 
Highway.
D. 
Engineering.
E. 
Parks.
F. 
Any other office or section of the Town government which the Town Board may, from time to time, place under the jurisdiction and control of said Department.
Said Department shall undertake and perform such duties and functions as may, from time to time, be assigned thereto by the Town Board of the Town of Greece.
A. 
Said Department shall be headed by a Director, also referred to as “Commissioner,” to be appointed by the Town Board of the Town of Greece, who shall be in the unclassified service of the civil service. Said Director shall exercise and perform such other powers and duties as are prescribed, from time to time, by the Town Board.

B. 
The Town Board may appoint such deputies to the Director as it may find necessary for efficient operation of said Department and prescribe the titles, powers and duties of each. Said deputies shall have the power to act generally for and in place of their principal, and the office of such deputies shall be in the exempt class of the civil service.
C. 
The terms “Commissioner of Public Works” and “Director of Public Works” are interchangeable.

The Director of Public Works and any deputies which may, from time to time, be appointed by the Town Board shall perform the following duties and have the following powers, in addition to any others prescribed by the Town Board:
A. 
Director.
(1) 
He/She shall have jurisdiction and control over the various divisions which are part of his/her Department, subject to direction from the Town Board.
(2) 
He/She shall be responsible for the proper and efficient operation of his/her Department and all of the divisions thereof, coordinating insofar as possible the activities of the various divisions under his/her jurisdiction and control.
(3) 
He/She shall carry out such other duties and powers as prescribed by the Town Board.
B. 
Deputies. They shall perform and exercise such powers and duties as are prescribed by the Director, reporting directly to the Director of Public Works.
