No person shall, except in necessary defense of person or property or as otherwise permitted by state law, fire or discharge any rifle, handgun, or shotgun within the Township of Cranberry except while hunting (with a valid hunting license) during regular hunting season on his or her own property or on property of another where he has obtained written permission of the owner and has such permission in his possession or except on an approved rifle range as provided for in § 6-102.

1. 
A rifle range shall be permitted, subject to approval of the Township Engineer, in accordance with the following requirements:
A. 
The range shall not exceed 250 yards in length.
B. 
The backstop of the range shall be a hill, clear of all objects from which bullets might ricochet and of such size and character that a miss of the target by 15 feet by the rifle used could not penetrate the hill backstop.
C. 
No part of the range shall be within 150 yards of a dwelling.
D. 
No part of the range shall be within 50 yards of a public highway.
E. 
No more than 10 shooters shall be permitted at one time, regardless of the number of targets.
2. 
Applications in duplicate shall be filed with the Township Engineer, the said duplicate application to have attached thereto a plan of the territory intended to be utilized, which plan shall show that the area meets the requirements of Subsection 1.C and 1.D aforesaid.
3. 
Application for a permit shall be obtained from the Township Engineer.
4. 
Approval by the Township Engineer shall be required for a permit.
5. 
After consideration of the application, the duplicate application shall be marked "approved" or "disapproved" by the Township Engineer, signed, dated and one copy retained by the Township Engineer and the other mailed or delivered to the applicant.
6. 
The Board of Supervisors of Cranberry Township shall establish, by resolution, a schedule of fees for the obtaining of permits required under the provisions of this part. Such resolutions shall be duly recorded in the Resolution Book of the Township and such fee schedule shall be reproduced and made available upon request at the Township Building. The resolution providing for the various fees shall be periodically reviewed and amended, when necessary, by resolution of the Board of Supervisors. The issuance of a permit shall be contingent upon the payment of the proper fee as established by the resolution and the fee schedule.

Nothing in this part shall be construed to prohibit the use of rifles or firearms by police officers in the performance of their duties, in target practice or any other function of their employment, nor by any property owner hunting on his property in Cranberry Township.

Any person, firm or corporation who shall violate any provision of this part, upon conviction thereof in an action brought before a district judge in the manner provided for the enforcement of summary offenses under the Pennsylvania Rules of Criminal Procedure, shall be sentenced to pay a fine of not more than $1,000 plus costs and, in default of payment of said fine and costs, to a term of imprisonment not to exceed 90 days. Each day that a violation of this part continues or each section of this part which shall be found to have been violated shall constitute a separate offense.

It shall be unlawful for any minor under the age of 17 years to be or remain in or upon any of the public streets, alleys, parks or public places in the Township of Cranberry, Butler County, Pennsylvania, at night, from the hour of 10:00 p.m. until the hour of 6:00 a.m. the next day, unless such minor is accompanied by the parent or guardian having the custody of such minor; and after 10:00 p.m. each evening, all such minors shall be required to be at home or out of the public streets, alleys, parks and public places in the Township until the hour of 6:00 a.m., except when accompanied by parent or guardian or going to or returning from work or returning from school or organized youth activities. Any minor upon the public streets, alleys, parks and public places in a motor vehicle during the prohibited hours shall be in violation of this part when not accompanied by parent or guardian.

It is hereby made unlawful for any parent or guardian to allow or permit any such minor under the age of 17 years, while in such legal custody, to go or be in and upon any of the streets, alleys, parks or public places in said Township during the time prohibited in § 6-201 unless such parent or guardian accompanies such minor.

Any minor under the age of 17 years found upon the Township streets, alleys, parks and public places in violation of § 6-201 may be taken into custody by the Township police, and the parents of such minor, or guardian, as the case may be, shall immediately be notified. Township police will prepare an incident report. In the event of a second violation by any minor the parent or guardian of any such minor, upon conviction thereof in an action brought before a district judge in the manner provided for the enforcement of summary offenses under the Pennsylvania Rules of Criminal Procedure, shall be sentenced to pay a fine of not more than $1,000 plus costs and, in default of payment of said fine and costs, to a term of imprisonment not to exceed 90 days.

The police officers of the Township of Cranberry, in taking any minor into custody under this part, shall use their discretion in determining age, and in doubtful cases may require positive proof of age, and unless such proof is furnished, the judgment of the arresting officer shall be decisive.

The provisions of this part may be extended by the Township Supervisors as to age of persons and hours of coverage in the event there is a riot, public demonstration or breach of the peace which creates an actual or imminent danger to persons or property within the Township. In no case shall such extension be for more than 48 hours.
