As used in this article, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
ADVISORS
Qualified members who are appointed by the Chief to oversee the JFA.
CHIEF
The Chief of the Edgewater Volunteer Fire Department.
DEPARTMENT
The Edgewater Volunteer Fire Department.
JFA
The Edgewater Volunteer Fire Department Junior Firefighters Auxiliary.
There is hereby created an Edgewater Volunteer Fire Department Junior Firefighters Auxiliary (hereinafter "JFA") within the Volunteer Fire Department.
There shall be permitted a maximum of 16 members in the JFA. Application for membership shall be on a form as approved by the Chief of the Department. An individual seeking membership in the JFA must reside within the Borough of Edgewater for a minimum of six months prior to the date of application for membership. An applicant shall be required to be at least 16 years of age and less than 18 years of age. The application for membership shall be accompanied by a statement from the applicant's parent or guardian consenting to the applicant's membership in the JFA. A member of the JFA may continue in membership for a period of six months after such member's 18th birthday. Any member of the JFA no longer residing within the Borough shall be required to resign, and if such resignation is not received within 30 days, such member shall automatically cease to be a member of the JFA.
The members of the JFA shall be governed by the bylaws, which shall be subject to the approval of the Mayor and Council. Such bylaws shall be prepared by the Volunteer Fire Department.
Members of the JFA shall be entitled to receive a clothing allowance, provided that the member compiles the requisite point requirement as established by the bylaws, which shall be consistent with the practice applicable to the Volunteer Fire Department. The amount of the clothing allowance shall be further subject to the approval of the Mayor and Council.
No member of the JFA shall perform duties which would expose such member to danger and hazards experienced by regular firefighters. No member of the JFA shall enter a fire or hazardous area until such site or incident is declared under control and safe by the Incident Commander.
