Whenever any vehicle is parked or abandoned on any street or
highway in the Village during a snowstorm, fire or other public emergency
which affects the portion of the highway upon which said vehicle is
parked or abandoned; or whenever any vehicle is found unattended upon
any highway in a place where such vehicle constitutes an obstruction
to traffic; or whenever any vehicle is found unattended at any place
upon a highway where stopping, standing or parking is prohibited by
statute, rule or ordinance, said vehicle may be removed by or under
the direction of the Police Department of the County of Nassau or
the Highway Department of the Village of Farmingdale.
After such removal, the Police Department of the County of Nassau
or the Highway Department of the Village of Farmingdale may store
such vehicle in a suitable place at the expense of the owner. Such
owner or person in charge of the vehicle may redeem the same upon
payment to the authority removing said vehicle, as follows: the Police
Department of the County of Nassau or the Highway Department of the
Village, of the amount of all expenses actually and necessarily incurred
in effecting such removal, such charges not to exceed an amount as
shall be set from time to time by resolution of the Board of Trustees,
with a schedule of such fees to be maintained by the Village Clerk-Treasurer,
together with any charges for storage, such storage not to exceed
such amount as shall be set from time to time by resolution of the
Board of Trustees, with a schedule of such fees to be maintained by
the Village Clerk-Treasurer, per day or fraction thereof.
The authority removing said vehicle, as follows: the Police
Department of the County of Nassau or the Highway Department of the
Village, shall ascertain to the extent possible the owner of the vehicle
or person having charge of same and notify him of the removal and
storage of said vehicle and the amount which would be required to
redeem the same.
