The office of Construction Official[1] is hereby created. The term of the Construction Official shall be for one year from January 1 of the year in which he is appointed and until his successor is appointed and qualifies. The Mayor and Council may, by a majority vote, remove such official for cause after reasonable notice and hearing.

A. 
It shall be the duty of the Construction Official to enforce the provisions of the Zoning Ordinance[1] and of all other chapters relating to the construction, alteration, repair or maintenance of all buildings, structures and signs within the Borough. He shall perform all of the duties imposed upon the Zoning Officer and shall issue all permits for the construction, alteration, repair or maintenance of buildings, structures and signs required by the Zoning Ordinance or by other chapters.

B. 
The Construction Official shall:
(1) 
Keep a record of all applications for permits and all proceedings thereon and shall preserve all specifications and plans and amendments filed in connection with any application for a permit.
(2) 
Keep a record of all permits issued, of all inspections made and all permits revoked.
(3) 
Keep a full and complete record of all buildings or structures erected, altered or repaired.
(4) 
Keep a record of all fees paid and shall pay over such fees to the Collector of the Borough at least once in each month.
(5) 
Make a report to the Mayor and Council at its first meeting in each month, setting forth the number of applications filed, the number of permits granted, the amount of fees and such other information as may be from time to time requested.
The Construction Official shall have the right, and it shall be his duty, to inspect all buildings in course of construction, erection, alteration or repair, and, also, any and all buildings or structures which he has reason to believe may be unsafe or dangerous, and, also, at all proper times to enter upon private property and the buildings thereon for the purpose of making necessary inspection for the proper enforcement of the various ordinances of this Borough and the laws of this state applicable thereto. No person shall interfere with him in the performance of such duties or prevent him from making any inspection during reasonable hours.
The Construction Official shall, in addition to the duties herein specifically enumerated, perform such other duties as may from time to time be prescribed by a resolution of the Mayor and Council.

The Construction Official shall receive such salary as is set forth in the current annual Salary Ordinance of the Borough of Edgewater.
