The Recreation Board is hereby created and established for the
City, such Board to consist of seven residents of the City, two of
whom shall be members of the School Board of the Greater Nanticoke
Area School District.
Five members of the Board shall be appointed by the Mayor of
the City, subject to the approval of Council, and two members shall
be appointed by the School Board of the Greater Nanticoke Area School
District, each to serve for a term of five years or until their successors
are appointed, except that the members of such Board first appointed
shall be appointed one by the City and one by the School Board for
one-year terms; one by the City and one by the School Board for two-year
terms; one by the City for a three-year term; one by the City for
a four-year term, and one by the City for a five-year term, and thereafter,
annually, the City and School Board shall appoint members for a five-year
term. Vacancies in such Board occurring otherwise than by expiration
of term shall be for the unexpired term and shall be filled in the
same manner as the original appointment.
Members of the Board shall serve without compensation.
The Recreation Board appointed pursuant to the provision of
this chapter and an Act of Assembly shall have authority to equip,
operate, maintain and supervise the playgrounds, playing fields and
recreation centers of the City, subject at all times to the control
and approval of the City Council, and shall have authority to expend
monies in accordance with the regular method of expenditure of City
funds to the extent that funds are appropriated therefor by Council.
