The Board of Health of the Borough of Edgewater hereby creates the position or office of Health Officer in and for the Borough of Edgewater. Notwithstanding anything in this article to the contrary, the Health Officer for the Borough of Edgewater may be an employee of the County of Bergen with whom the Board of Health has contracted to perform the services specified in this article.

The Health Officer, during the term of his appointment and subject to the authority of the local Board of Health, shall be the Board of Health's general agent for the enforcement of the Board of Health ordinances, rules and regulations and the sanitary laws of the State of New Jersey within the Borough of Edgewater.
The term of office of such Health Officer shall be one year, commencing January 1 in each year, until his successor is duly appointed and qualified.
The compensation of the Health Officer shall be as may be determined from time to time by the Board of Health.[1]

No person shall be appointed as Health Officer unless he holds a proper license which qualifies him for such a position or office.
