A. 
Members of the Department absent from duty for any cause must be reported immediately to the Department and the reason given. Requests for permission to be absent from duty not outlined in this article must be submitted to the Chief of Police for approval.
B. 
Upon written application to the Chief of Police, leaves of absence without pay may be granted members of the Department desiring to observe religious holidays.
A. 
The authorized annual vacation period shall be in accordance with the contract signed between the Village officials and the Police Benevolent Association and shall be administered by and subject to the approval of the Chief of Police.
B. 
Vacations shall be taken by the members of the force of each rank in the order of seniority. A member of the Department, senior in rank in any command, is entitled to the first choice; the member next in seniority, second choice; and so on, in rotation.
C. 
A member of the Department, prior to absenting himself on vacation, shall leave his vacation address with the Chief of Police, who will enter same upon the blotter.
D. 
Vacation periods shall be taken in successive days, including normal days off and holidays. It may be terminated at the discretion of the Chief of Police.
E. 
When a member of the Department terminates his service by retirement or resignation, he shall receive a lump sum payment in lieu of any unused authorized vacation, unless sufficient time permits the Chief of Police to schedule him for vacation prior to his termination.
F. 
The authorized paid holiday schedule shall be in accordance with the contract signed between the Village officials and the Police Benevolent Association.
A. 
Sick leave shall be granted to all members of the Department as follows, unless otherwise ordered by the Village Board:
(1) 
Each member of the Department shall be entitled to 15 days' leave at the commencement of employment and shall automatically accumulate 15 days' sick leave on the first day of each calendar year.
(2) 
Accumulated sick leave cannot exceed the total authorized by the contract between the Village Board and Police Benevolent Association.
(3) 
Severance from the service terminates all except 30 days' sick leave credit, which may be taken as terminal leave with full pay and benefits by an employee, upon notice to the Village of his intention to retire.
B. 
A member, if unable to report for duty, shall notify the Chief of Police no less than one hour before his scheduled tour of duty.
C. 
When making such notification, the member shall give:
(1) 
His location and telephone number.
(2) 
The nature of the disability and probable duration of absence.
(3) 
If confined to a hospital, the name, address and telephone number of the hospital.
(4) 
The name, address and telephone number of his attending physician.
(5) 
Scheduled court, trial or agency appearances precluded by absence.
D. 
The Chief of Police shall make the appropriate blotter entry concerning this notification, ensuring that notation is made on the duty chart.
E. 
The Chief of Police shall be responsible for making the necessary provisions for the adjournment or rescheduling of his court, trial or agency appearances, as dependent upon the probable duration of absence. The member shall be notified accordingly.
F. 
A member of the Department on sick leave shall not leave his residence or place of confinement, except by permission of his physician.
G. 
A member of the Department exposed to a contagious disease or involved in mouth-to-mouth resuscitation with a person suffering from a contagious disease shall notify the Chief of Police of the circumstances and report to the nearest hospital for preventative measures in treatment. The Chief of Police shall make an appropriate blotter entry regarding this notification and advise the Chief of Police.
H. 
A member of the Department on sick report shall be required to furnish a doctor's certificate describing his disability when reporting back for duty. Should the period of absence be one of extended duration, the member shall be required to mail to his commanding officer a doctor's certificate verifying the extended absence caused by said disability. All such doctors' certificates are to be forwarded to the Chief of Police for insertion in the member's Department record.
I. 
The Chief of Police, at such times as he deems necessary, may assign an officer to or may himself visit a member on sick report and certify as to the member's status, by visual observation, on the appropriate report.
J. 
At the direction of the Village Board, physicians and/or police surgeons may at any time examine any member or employee of the Police Department, Village of Sag Harbor, New York, to determine the employee's or member's physical or mental fitness, and appropriate action will be taken where a member fails to qualify for the rank of position he now holds.
Members covered by workmen's compensation shall be entitled to the benefits provided by the Workmen's Compensation Law of the State of New York. All injuries in the line of duty must be reported immediately to the Chief of Police, through channels.
Members of the Department shall be members in the New York State Policemen and Firemen Retirement System. Other employees in the Department shall be members of the New York State Employees' Retirement System. All matters pertaining to retirement benefits are under the sole jurisdiction of the appropriate system relating to the employee's status within the Department.
Members of the Department, if enrolled, are covered by the social security system.
A. 
Duty rosters will be prominently displayed in headquarters and copies sent to the Chief of Police and the Mayor.
B. 
Duty rosters shall be used to report the daily attendance, absence and other similar data of the members assigned to the command.
C. 
A duty roster shall be used for each calendar day, each day being from 0001 to 2400 hours.
Absence due to injury in the line of duty is to be recorded in the blotter and the injured officer, when capable, will report to the Village Clerk's office to complete the workmen's compensation forms.
School crossing guards shall be entitled to sick leave with pay, not to exceed three days or 15 hours, during said school year, or what other time may be approved by the Village Board.
