This chapter shall be known as the "Mount Gretna Borough Sign
Ordinance."
This chapter is enacted pursuant to the Borough Code.
As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the
meanings indicated:
SIGN
Any object, device, display or structures, or part thereof,
visible from a public way, which is used to advertise, identify, display,
direct or attract attention to a person, organization, institution,
business, product service, or event or location.

A. All signs
are prohibited within the street right-of-way located within the Borough
of Mount Gretna except those signs associated with traffic control
and historical markers.
B. "For Rent"
signs cannot exceed 11 inches by 17 inches and must be affixed to
the house.
C. Freestanding
temporary signs, such as a construction company, painter, plumber,
and the like, are permitted only during the period of time when the
work is being done on the property by a particular contractor.
D. Freestanding
political signs are permitted only in the month prior to an election
and shall be removed within a week after the election.

Any person, firm, or corporation who shall violate any provision
of this chapter shall, upon being found liable therefor in a civil
enforcement proceeding commenced by the Borough before a Magisterial
District Judge, pay a fine of not less than $100 nor more than $600
per violation, and the costs of prosecution, plus restitution. No
judgment shall be imposed until the date of the determination of the
violation by the Magisterial District Judge. If the defendant neither
pays nor timely appeals the judgment, the Borough may enforce the
judgment pursuant to the applicable Rules of Civil Procedure. Each
day that a violation of this chapter continues shall constitute a
separate event. Further, the appropriate officers or agents of the
Borough are hereby authorized to seek equitable relief, including
injunction, to enforce compliance herewith.
