The word building, as used in this Part shall mean any structure,
including trailers and mobile homes, used or intended to be used as
a dwelling or a place for business or industry, but shall not include
any public building or any structure built as a place of worship,
or any accessory building located on a lot where there is also a main
building.

Council, or a person assigned by Council for the purpose, shall
prepare an official building numbering plan for the Borough. It shall
be the duty of every owner of a building in the Borough to obtain
from the Borough Secretary information as to the official number for
his building.

On and after the passage of this ordinance, it shall be the
duty of each and every owner, trustee, lessee, agent, and occupant
of each and every house, building, or other structure in the Borough
of Mifflinburg to cause the same to be numbered in accordance with
this ordinance, and the system and plan hereby adopted and approved.

1. The numbers shall be placed in a conspicuous place on every house,
building or other structure in a conspicuous manner so that said numbers
can be readily seen and read from the sidewalk in front of said building,
in full view from the opposite side of the street. The numbers shall
be Arabic numbers and shall be of metal or enamel, at least three
inches in height. In lieu of Arabic numbers, the numbers can be spelled
out in English letters at least three inches in height. If the numbers
or letters are of enamel, the colors shall be in contrast with the
immediate background.
2. It shall be unlawful to cover any house number with any sign, drapery
or other obstruction tending to conceal such number and all old numbers
shall be removed from any house, building or other structure when
a new number has been assigned, and when so notified by the Secretary
of the Borough at the direction of the Borough Manager.
3. The Borough Manager is hereby authorized to require the numbering
and renumbering of any house, building, or other structure in accordance
with this ordinance.

1. On and after the passage of this ordinance it shall be the duty of
each and every owner, landlord, manager or rental agent of each and
every building group, two family dwelling, hotel, motel, rooming houses,
apartment building or multi-family dwelling to cause each and every
dwelling unit to be numbered in a conspicuous place on the entrance
to each said dwelling unit. The numbers shall be Arabic numbers and
shall be of metal or enamel, at least three inches in height. In lieu
of Arabic numbers, the numbers can be spelled out in English letters
at least three inches in height. If the numbers or letters are enamel,
the colors shall be in contrast with the immediate background.
2. In addition, on and after the passage of this ordinance it shall
be the duty of each and every owner, landlord, manager or rental agent
to identify the number of every dwelling unit and the occupant thereof
in a conspicuous place and in a conspicuous manner immediately with
the main entrance to said building.

1. Fine. Any owner who fails to place on his dwelling house or other
building the number assigned by the Council to such dwelling house
or building, shall upon conviction thereof, be sentenced to pay a
fine of not more than $25 and costs of prosecution, and, in default
of payment of such fine and costs, the imprisonment for not more than
10 days.
2. Placement of Numbers by Borough. In addition to the fine herein provided,
if any owner of a dwelling house or other building shall fail within
90 days after the effective date of this ordinance [This ordinance
shall be effective as of the date when the Borough Council adopts
an official numbering plan] to place thereon the number assigned thereto
under the provisions of this ordinance, the Council shall place such
number thereon and all costs of placing such number thereon shall
be certified to the Borough Solicitor who shall enter the same as
a lien against the premises in the Court of Common Pleas of Union
County, Pennsylvania, which shall be collectable in the same manner
as other municipal claims are collectable, or, in lieu thereof, the
Borough Solicitor may bring an action in assumpsit in the name of
the Borough of Mifflinburg against such owner to recover the costs
of placing such number.
