[HISTORY: 1988 Code §§ 11-1—11-2 adopted as amended through December 31, 2013. Amendments noted where applicable]
Public office and employment are a public trust, and the stability of representative democracy depends upon the public's confidence in the integrity of elected and appointed officials. Whenever the public perceives a conflict between the private interest and the public duties of a government officer or employee, that confidence is imperil. The Local Government Ethics Law provides a method of assuring that standards of ethical conduct and financial disclosure requirements for Township Officers and employees shall be clear, consistent, uniform in their application and enforceable and provides Township officers and employees with advice and information concerning possible conflicts of interest which may arise in the conduct of their public duties.
A.
The Local Government Ethics Law, N.J.S.A. 40A:9-22.1, et seq., as may be amended and supplemented, is hereby adopted by reference and incorporated herein, as though the entire provisions of said law were set forth verbatim and at length herein.
B.
All current and newly hired employees as well as elected and appointed officials of the Township of Wayne shall, once a year, be given a copy of the Code of Ethics of the Township, as set forth in N.J.S.A. 40A:9-22.5, and shall sign the copy on or before March 1 of each year, thereby acknowledging their receipt and understanding of the Code.
C.
Submission of this affidavit is mandatory, and the failure to submit will result in disciplinary action.
