The Wallington Junior Fire Explorer Program is hereby established
to facilitate and provide programs for civic youth involvement, to
educate future members of the Fire Department in the concept of and
training involved in future fire service, to provide aid to the Fire
Department, to provide structure and build character and sense of
community in the youth involved in the program.
The cost of such program, including equipment, insurance and/or
supplies, shall be borne by the individual members/applicants and/or
the various sponsoring organizations.
The various rules and regulations of same shall be promulgated
and set forth by the various sponsoring organizations, and such rules
and regulations shall be adopted by the various sponsoring organizations,
and such rules and regulations shall remain on file with the official
records of such sponsoring organizations; and any and all such rules
and regulations shall be promulgated with any and all training and
safety procedures for the various members which shall be approved
by the governing body.

The membership in the Wallington Junior Fire Explorer Program shall be subject to the residency requirements for the Wallington Fire Department set forth in Chapter 49, entitled "Fire Department," § 49-3, entitled "Qualifications; Probationary Period." However, there shall be a legacy exemption. Any applicant for the Wallington Junior Fire Explorer Program who is an immediate family member of a present member of the Wallington Fire Department or an exempt member who is no longer with the Wallington Fire Department, who does not live in Wallington but lives in a town which is contiguous to Wallington, shall be entitled to apply for membership in the Wallington Junior Fire Explorer Program. All members who qualify under this legacy exemption shall be entitled to apply for membership to a Wallington Fire Company that has a vacancy for a qualified member. All applicants must comply with all other guidelines and qualifications which are set forth in the existing ordinances governing membership to the Wallington Junior Fire Explorer Program and/or the Wallington Fire Department.
