Pursuant to 36 M.R.S.A. § 843, a Board of Assessment
Review is hereby established.

The Board of Assessment Review shall consist of five members.

The members of the Board of Assessment Review shall, subject
to confirmation by the Council, be nominated by the Mayor.

The terms of office of members of the Board of Assessment Review
shall not exceed five years and no more than two members' terms of
office shall expire in a single year.

The members of the Board of Assessment Review shall receive
such compensation as determined and approved by the City Council.

It shall be the duty of the Board of Assessment Review to review
appeals duly filed in writing by taxpayers regarding any tax assessment
made by the Tax Assessor.

Any member of the Board of Assessment Review shall have authority
to initiate an appeal in writing for review of any tax assessment
made by the Tax Assessor which he deems to merit review.

The members of the Board of Assessment Review shall not indulge
in City political activity as defined and understood under the Hatch
Act.
