Any sign hereafter erected or maintained shall conform with the provisions of this article.
The following types of signs, and no other, shall be permitted:
A. 
Official traffic signs.
B. 
Professional, accessory use or name signs, indicating the name, profession or activity of the occupant of a dwelling, and trespassing signs, or signs indicating the private nature of a driveway or premises, provided that the area on one side of any such sign shall not exceed a maximum of 200 square inches, and illumination of such sign shall be by white light only.
C. 
Identification signs for schools, churches, hospitals or similar institutions and for clubs, lodges or similar uses, provided that the area on one side of any such sign shall not exceed 20 square feet.
D. 
Real estate signs, including signs advertising the sale or rental of premises, provided that the area on one side of any such sign shall not exceed six square feet; and signs indicating the location and direction of premises in the process of development, provided that the area on one side of any such sign shall not exceed 20 square feet.
E. 
Temporary signs of contractors, architects, mechanics and artisans or of schools, churches, hospitals, clubs, lodges or similar institutions, provided that the area on one side of any such sign shall not exceed 20 square feet and that such signs shall be removed promptly upon completion of the work or activity.
F. 
Business or industrial sign in Business and Light Industrial Districts only, provided that such signs, except directional signs, are placed on the premises on which the use to which the sign relates is conducted, and the total area on one side of all such signs placed on or facing any one street frontage of any one premises, shall not exceed 100 square feet, or 15% of the overall surface of the wall facing such frontage, whichever is the greater. The area on one side of a directional sign shall not exceed 25 square feet.
The following restrictions shall apply to all permitted sign uses:
A. 
No sign shall be placed other than within the property line nor in such a position that it will cause danger to traffic on a street by obscuring the view of traffic or traffic directional or control signs.
B. 
No sign other than official traffic signs and street signs shall project over the lines of any street or over a public sidewalk, except signs indicating the location of churches, schools, hospitals, service organizations or similar directional signs, provided that the size of any such sign shall not exceed 400 square inches on one side; each such sign shall be approved by the Construction Official; and the number of any such signs to be erected by any one institution or organization may be limited at the discretion of the Construction Official.
C. 
No sign shall be located, illuminated or constructed in such a manner that will conflict with the provisions of this article.
D. 
No sign shall be of a flashing type.
E. 
Signs in rights-of-way or on public property.

(1) 
No sign, be it of a political, educational, charitable, civic, professional, religious or like nature or of a personal nature shall be erected in or upon the public right-of-way or erected upon or attached to any utility pole, tree, light standard, or monument located within the right-of-way of any street or on any public property within the Borough of Westville.
(2) 
The person whose name, phone number or location may be on any sign improperly placed or any individual who may be identified as having placed the sign inappropriately as aforesaid shall be responsible for the immediate removal of same upon notification by any Borough employee. Failure of the responsible person to cause the immediate removal of the sign so identified shall subject such person to fines and penalties as outlined herein and shall authorize any Borough official or employee, so empowered, to remove such violative sign.[1]
