[HISTORY: Adopted by the Township Committee of the Township of Fredon Ord. No. 2002-06 (Sec. 2-14 of the 1972 Revised General Ordinances). Amendments noted where applicable.]
The Fredon Volunteer Fire Company, Inc., is recognized as the Township's official volunteer fire company for the purpose of providing fire protection and other emergency services. The Fredon First Responders are recognized as the Township's official volunteer medical services company for the purpose of providing first aid and emergency medical response services to the residents of the Township and such other persons who may experience injury or illness within the Township. The composition, government, and management of each organization shall be in accordance with the constitution, bylaws, rules, and regulations of each organization, subject to the approval of the Township Committee.
Any person seeking to join either the Fredon Volunteer Fire Company or the Fredon First Responders shall make application to the entity, which application shall be considered in accordance with the bylaws, rules, and regulations of the organization into which membership is sought. After approval of membership and confirmation by the Township Committee, a new member's name shall be entered on the rolls kept by the Township Clerk of members of the organization being joined.
The Township Clerk shall perform such acts as may be necessary for the Fredon Volunteer Fire Company, Inc., and the Fredon First Responders to be recognized within the state as the official municipal agencies charged with their respective responsibilities.
The Fredon Volunteer Fire Company and the Fredon First Responders may enact such incident command structures as may be appropriate and authorized by State regulation and policy of the National Fire Protection Association or similar body. During any emergency within the Township in which either the Fredon Volunteer Fire Company or Fredon First Responders are called out, the incident commander of either unit may, in the performance of his or her duties and as may be necessary for the protection of health, life, and property, prohibit persons, vehicles, or other objects from approaching the scene of the emergency and may remove or cause to be removed from the scene any person, vehicle, or object that may impede or interfere with the operations of the Fredon Volunteer Fire Company or Fredon First Responders.
It shall be unlawful for any person to interfere with, attempt to interfere with, or obstruct or restrict the mobility of any member of the Fredon Volunteer Fire Company or Fredon First Responders performing their duties pursuant to this section, including vehicles employed by such members in their duties.
Any person willfully failing or refusing to comply with any lawful order or direction of a member of either the Fredon Volunteer Fire Company or Fredon First Responders acting pursuant to this section, or who violates the provisions of § 85-5 hereof, shall, upon conviction thereof, be subject to a fine in the amount of $1,000 for either a first or second violation, and for a third and subsequent violation, a term of imprisonment of 90 days.
