In case a policeman or fireman is totally but temporarily disabled while not on duty as a policeman with the Borough, he shall be entitled to receive no more than 50% of his regular monthly salary from the individual disability contracts issued to such member and subject to the terms and conditions contained therein. However, should such member be entitled to sick-day benefits from the Borough, then the benefits as may be due such member from the individual disability contracts shall be integrated to make up the total sick-day benefits in accordance with the agreement between the Borough and the members of the police and fire departments, and in no event shall he be eligible to receive more than 100% of his regular monthly salary during the term of such disability.
In case a policeman or fireman is totally but temporarily disabled while on duty for the Borough, he shall be entitled to receive those benefits as provided for under the Act of June 2, 1939 (P.L. 736), known as the "Pennsylvania Workmen's Compensation Act"[1] or the Act of June 21, 1939 (P.L. 566), known as the "Pennsylvania Occupational Disease Act."[2] In addition, should the member be entitled to receive sick-day benefits from the Borough, social security disability benefits, and/or benefits from individual or group disability contracts on which premiums are paid by the Borough, such amounts will be integrated with any amounts he is entitled to receive under the above-mentioned act or acts, but in no event shall he be eligible to receive more than 100% of his regular monthly salary during the term of such disability. Should any member be entitled to receive any amount that would exceed 100% of his regular monthly salary at the time of such disability, such amounts shall be endorsed over to or refunded to the Borough.

If a policeman or fireman is totally and permanently disabled, as specified under the social security requirements, he shall be entitled to all of the benefits as provided for in his individual disability contracts and under such terms and conditions contained therein plus any disability benefits he may qualify for under the provisions of the Social Security Act.
As used in this article, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
REGULAR MONTHLY SALARY
That amount of money that any member was entitled to receive monthly, in the year in which the disability occurred, by working a normal forty-hour workweek. Compensation, such as, but not limited to, overtime, paid vacation, holiday pay and other fringe benefits, shall not be used in computing disability indemnity.
The Borough shall provide group life insurance coverage for all full-time members of the Police Department, full-time members of the Fire Department and full-time members of the Service Employees Department, in such amounts as stated in the master group life insurance contract held by the Borough and as shown in each member's individual group life insurance certificate. The amounts may vary and can be increased from time to time.
Should death occur prior to retirement, a death benefit will be payable from the group life insurance contract to the member's beneficiary in such amounts and under such provisions as stated in the master group life insurance contract held by the Borough.
The above-mentioned disability and group life insurance contracts shall be purchased through J.J. Markotan and Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, subject to the member's insurability and the limitations of coverage and other rules and regulations of the insuring company.
