[Adopted 1-7-1997 (§ 4-20 of the 1996 Revised General Ordinances)]
As used in this article, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
WATER SYSTEM
Any fire hydrant, gate valve or appurtenance belonging to or forming part of the publicly owned water distribution system which is operated by the Hackensack Water Company pursuant to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 40:62-108 et seq.
A person shall be guilty of disorderly conduct if he/she:
A. 
Shall at any time or in any manner open or operate any fire hydrant, gate valve or other appurtenance of the water system, tamper with or damage any part of the water system, or destroy or cause to be removed any part of the water system.
B. 
Has in his/her possession or on his/her person any hydrant or hydrant part belonging to the United Water Company.
C. 
Opens or operates, turns on, turns off, interferes with, attaches any pipe or hose to, or connects anything with any fire hydrant, gate valve or other appurtenance of the water system, or in any manner molests or interferes with the same.
D. 
Causes or directs water from the hydrants on to passing motor vehicles or in any other way interferes with moving motor vehicles.
This article shall not be construed to apply to any duly authorized employee of the City of Union City who shall:
A. 
Open or operate any fire hydrant, gate valve or other appurtenance of the water system or remove any part of the water system.
B. 
Have in his/her possession or on his/her person any hydrant or hydrant part belonging to the United Water Company.
C. 
Turn on, turn off, attach any pipe or hose to, or connect anything with any fire hydrant, gate valve or other appurtenance of the water system.
D. 
Remove any part or parts of the fire hydrant, gate valve or other appurtenance of the water system in the performance of his/her duties as such employee.
