[HISTORY: Adopted by the Township Committee of the Township of Liberty 4-7-2011 by Ord. No. 11-07. Amendments noted where applicable.]
A. 
Pursuant to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 40A:9-140, there is hereby established in and for the Township of Liberty the position of Municipal Engineer.
B. 
The Municipal Engineer so appointed shall be duly licensed in the State of New Jersey, and the aforesaid license shall be in good standing at all times during the term of the appointment.
The Municipal Engineer shall perform such duties as are prescribed by statute and in addition:
A. 
Prepare or cause to be prepared, specifically as directed by the Township Committee, plans, designs and specifications for public works and improvements undertaken by the Township either by account or by public contract.
B. 
Provide and maintain surveys, maps, plans, specifications, tax maps and control records with respect to public works and facilities owned or operated by the Township.
C. 
Provide technical and engineering advice and assistance to other Township officers, as needed.
D. 
Attend regular meetings of the Township Committee as needed, and such additional meeting as directed or requested by the Township Committee.
E. 
Perform such other duties as are now and hereafter imposed by statute, regulations or by municipal ordinance or regulation.
The term of office of Municipal Engineer shall be for a period of one year, to commence on January 1 of the year in which the appointment is made.
The Municipal Engineer shall receive such compensation as authorized by the Township Committee. All invoices for engineering services shall be subject to Township Committee approval.
Nothing in this article shall prohibit the Township Committee from hiring, appointing, consulting, employing or contracting with other engineers, engineering firms or companies if it is determined by the Township Committee that such services could be better obtained through another engineering firm.
