No person shall hawk or peddle meats, butter, cheese, fish and fresh fruits and vegetables, enumerated in MGL c. 101, § 17, except as otherwise provided in such chapter, without a license from the Director of Public Health.

Every hawker or peddler granted a license under the provisions of this chapter shall display their name and the license number assigned to them by the Director of Public Health in distinct, printed letters at least two inches in height upon the vehicle or receptacles used by them for carrying their wares.

Every person shall, before applying to the Director of Public Health for a license under the provisions of this chapter, cause the weights, measures and balances to be used by them in the sale of their commodities to be inspected by the Sealer of Weights and Measures and sealed or marked in the manner provided by law.

No hawker or peddler licensed under the provisions of this chapter shall carry their goods, wares or merchandise in any manner injurious to the public health or in vehicles or receptacles except such as are neat and clean and do not leak, or cry their wares to the disturbance of the peace and comfort of the inhabitants of the City.

The license granted under the provisions of this chapter shall bear the date of the day on which it is issued and, unless sooner revoked by the Director of Public Health, shall continue in force until the next 31st day of December, and each person so licensed shall pay therefor a fee as stated in Chapter 24, Schedule of fees, of this Code, to be transmitted by the Director of Public Health to the City Treasurer.

Any person licensed under the provisions of this chapter who fails, neglects or refuses to exhibit their license when the same is demanded of them by the Sealer or the Deputy Sealer of Weights and Measures or by a police officer or by any officer referred to in MGL c. 101, § 27, shall be subject to the same penalty as if they had no license.

On or before the fifth day of each month, the Director of Public Health shall transmit to the Chief of Police and to the Sealer of Weights and Measures a list of all persons granted licenses under this chapter during the preceding month, together with their addresses and the license numbers assigned to them.
