The Village has expended and continues to expend considerable monies to develop waterfront property within the Village on property owned, leased and/or directly controlled by the Village for the purpose of economic development, tourism, commerce and parks and recreation. It is hereby found and determined that it is in the best interest of the health, safety and public welfare of the citizens of the Village and community to regulate fishing on said properties. It is the intent of this chapter to only authorize the regulation of fishing on property owned, leased and/or directly controlled by the Village and not on private property.
The Board of Trustees is hereby authorized to enact by resolution any and all necessary restrictions, controls, prohibitions or the like for the regulation of fishing within the Village on property owned, leased and/or directly controlled by the Village and to provide for the posting of any and all necessary signs concerning same. This section shall not apply to private property.
Violations of any of the provisions of this chapter and any duly enacted resolutions pursuant hereto shall constitute a violation under the Penal Law and are punishable by a fine of up to $250 or a sentence of imprisonment fixed by the court which shall not exceed 15 days, or both such fine and imprisonment.
