[Adopted 2-27-1961 by Ord. No. 59 (Ch. 18, Art. I, of the 1993 Code)]
Pursuant to the statute in such case so made and provided, there is hereby created and reestablished the office of Tax Assessor for the whole Township of Buena Vista.[1]

There shall be appointed by the Township Committee an Assessor, who shall hold office for such time as may be fixed by law for Assessors appointed to fill vacancies; and thereafter an Assessor shall be elected in the manner and for the term provided by law.

The salary or compensation of said Tax Assessor shall be such sum, payable monthly, as may be fixed and adopted by the Township Committee in the Salary Ordinance from time to time.[1]

Said Assessor shall perform all the duties now required by law respecting the making of valuations and assessments of property for municipal taxation and shall:
A. 
Supervise and direct the appraising and assessing of land, buildings and personal property in the Township of Buena Vista.
B. 
Make reports and keep such other records as are needed and necessary.
C. 
Hear and dispose of complaints concerning assessments.
D. 
Make reports to the Township Committee at such time as he may be required to do so concerning his office and its work.
E. 
Perform such other duties as are or may be required of him by the laws of the State of New Jersey and other applicable ordinances of the Township of Buena Vista.
The Tax Assessor, at the request of and with the approval of the Township Committee, shall attend all lectures, courses and classes given for the training of tax assessors in the discharge of the duties of his office.
The Township Committee, from time to time as it deems it necessary, by resolution, may make provisions for the appointment and fixing of compensation of a clerical assistant or assistants to the Tax Assessor, whose duties shall be to perform such work and such duties as may be assigned to them by the Tax Assessor or by the Township Committee. Said resolutions shall provide that such clerical assistant or assistants shall be appointed by the Township Committee.
