A. 
Generally. The Township Committee shall appoint a Township Clerk, who shall serve under the Township Committee's direction. The Township Committee may appoint a Deputy Clerk who shall perform the powers and duties of the Clerk in the event of the Clerk's absence or disability.
B. 
Tenure. Nothing contained in this chapter shall in any way affect the tenure of the present Township Clerk.
C. 
Powers and duties. The Clerk shall:
(1) 
Serve as Clerk of the Township Committee, keep the minutes and records of its proceedings and maintain and compile its ordinances and resolutions as required by law.
(2) 
Serve as Registrar of Vital Statistics, including births, deaths and marriages, in accordance with state law, and issue marriage licenses pursuant to law.
(3) 
Have custody of the Township Seal and affix it to such books, papers and documents as may be authorized pursuant to law.
(4) 
Have custody of all official books, papers and documents of the Township for which no other repository is provided by Charter or ordinance, and preserve and keep them safely.
(5) 
Perform such functions as are vested in the Clerk by the licensing provisions of state law or ordinance.
(6) 
Make searches for municipal improvements.
(7) 
Perform all of the functions required of municipal clerks by the General Election Law (Title 19 of the Revised Statutes).
(8) 
Supervise employees within his office.
D. 
Compensation. The salary range for said position shall be as provided in the Salary Ordinance[2] and in accordance with New Jersey State Law for Statutory Position.

A. 
Pursuant to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 40A:9-135, there is hereby created the office of Deputy Municipal Clerk in and for the Township of Buena Vista.
B. 
The Deputy Municipal Clerk shall be appointed by the Township Committee for a term of one year, commencing on January 1 of each year.
C. 
In full compensation for the discharge of all his duties, the Deputy Municipal Clerk shall receive the annual salary fixed by the Salary Ordinance of the Township of Buena Vista.[1]

The duties and responsibilities of the Deputy Municipal Clerk shall be those assigned by the Municipal Clerk and the Township Committee. In the absence of the Municipal Clerk, the Deputy Municipal Clerk shall have the right and power to execute all documents required by law or ordinance to be executed by the Municipal Clerk and shall affix the seal of the Township thereto whenever required. In signing any documents, the Deputy Municipal Clerk should sign the name of the Municipal Clerk, followed by the word "By" and the Deputy Municipal Clerk's own name and the words "Deputy Municipal Clerk." The Deputy Municipal Clerk shall turn over all moneys received by him on behalf of the Township to the Township Treasurer.
Before entering upon the duties of his office, the Deputy Municipal Clerk shall execute a bond in such amount as is provided by statute, conditioned upon the faithful performance of his duties.
