A. 
Pursuant to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 40A:9-140, there is hereby created the office of Municipal Engineer in and for the Township of Buena Vista.
B. 
The Municipal Engineer shall be appointed by the Township Committee for a term or terms as provided in N.J.S.A. 40A:9-140; said Engineer shall complete the appointed term prior to a new term being established.

C. 
The compensation of the Municipal Engineer shall be fixed by the Township Committee either in the form of an annual salary as set forth in the Salary Ordinance[1] or on a fixed-fee basis or at an hourly rate, based upon actual time and expenses agreed on prior to the rendering of services.

The Municipal Engineer shall perform such duties as are prescribed by ordinance and general law and, in addition, shall:
A. 
Prepare or cause to be prepared, specifically as directed by the Township Committee, plans, designs and specifications for public works and improvements undertaken by the Township either on force account or by public contract.
B. 
Provide and maintain surveys, maps, plans, specifications, Tax Maps and control records with respect to public works and facilities owned or operated by the Township.
C. 
Provide technical and engineering advice and assistance to other Township offices as needed.
D. 
Attend agenda or regular meetings of the Township Committee as directed or requested by the Committee.
All papers, documents, memoranda, reports and other materials relating to the administration of the engineering duties of the Municipal Engineer shall be and remain the property of the Township. Upon the termination of his services with the Township, the Municipal Engineer shall forthwith surrender to any successor or to the Township all such property at no cost.
Nothing in this article shall inhibit the powers of the Township Committee to appoint or contract for any other engineering services or consultants in performing any of the duties of the Municipal Engineer as set forth in § 30-23.
