[HISTORY: Adopted by the Township Committee of the Township of Middle 12-1-1997 by Ord. No. 998-97. Amendments noted where applicable.]
There be and hereby is created the Middle Township Economic Development Council.

A. 
The Economic Development Council shall consist of nine members to be appointed by the Township Committee. Among the initial appointees, three shall be appointed for three-year-terms, three shall be appointed for two-year terms, and three shall be appointed for one-year-terms. Thereafter, all members shall be appointed for three-year terms. The terms of office commence on January 1 and terminate on December 31, three years thereafter. The initial appointees shall take office immediately, but their appointments shall be deemed to have commenced January 1, 1998.
B. 
The Council shall also appoint one alternate member, having a term of two years' duration.
The Economic Development Council shall hold meetings not less than four times annually. The Council may, in its sole discretion, meet more frequently.
The Council shall retain the services of a secretary, who shall keep the minutes of the meetings and provide such clerical services as may be required by the Council. The Council shall also utilize the services of an attorney designated by the Township Committee. They shall designate one member of the Council as Chairman. The Chairman shall preside at meetings, but shall have no power greater than any other member.
The Council will direct its activities toward the following goals:
A. 
The building of a diverse, prosperous and self-reliant economy.
B. 
The preservation of the character, history, culture, quality of life and natural resources of the Township of Middle.
C. 
The improvement of the lives of all citizens of the Township of Middle with good homes, good jobs, schools and services.
The Council shall prepare and adopt Bylaws and shall submit same to the Township Committee for approval.
The Council will develop a statement of goals and shall, subject to the approval of the Township Committee structure a plan for the implementation of said goals. The goals and plan shall be submitted to the Township Committee within six months of the convening of organizational meeting of the Council.
The following Township Officials shall serve as non-voting ex-officio members of the Economic Development Council: Chief Financial Officer, Construction Official, Zoning Official, Grants Coordinator and Mayor's designee.
