Every person convicted of a violation of any provision of this chapter shall be guilty of a traffic infraction and:
A.
For a first conviction thereof shall be punished by a fine of not more than $50 or by imprisonment for not more than 15 days, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
B.
For a second such conviction within 18 months thereafter, shall be punished by a fine of not more than $100 or by imprisonment for not more than 30 days, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
C.
For a third or subsequent conviction within 18 months after the first conviction, shall be punished by a fine of not more than $250 or by imprisonment for not more than 90 days, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
