Notwithstanding the provision of § 24 of the Town Law, the term of office of the Superintendent of Highways in the Town of Lumberland, elected at the election in November 1969, and of all Superintendents of Highways in the Town of Lumberland elected thereafter, shall be four years.
This article shall be subject to a mandatory referendum and shall take effect, subject to compliance with the provisions of § 23, Subdivision 1, of the Municipal Home Rule Law, when filed in the office of the Secretary of State pursuant to § 27 of such law.

Editor's Note: This article was amended at time of adoption of Code to remove references to the Town Tax Collector, which position was abolished upon the expiration of the current term by resolution on 5-11-2011, effective 12-31-2013.
The term of office of the elected Town Supervisor and the Town Clerk shall be four years. Such four-year term shall commence as of the first day of January 2002 and shall apply to the person elected to such office at the biennial Town election to be held on November 6, 2001, and to those elected thereafter, provided a proposition submitted pursuant to § 68-4 below is approved.
This article is adopted subject to a mandatory referendum and shall be submitted for approval of the qualified voters of the Town of Lumberland at the biennial Town election to be held on November 6, 2001. A proposition in the following form shall be included on the ballot at such biennial Town election, and the increased term of office shall not take effect unless such proposition is approved by a majority vote of the qualified voters voting thereon.
"Shall Local Law No. 2-2001, entitled 'A Local Law Increasing the Term of Office of the Town Supervisor, Town Clerk and the Tax Collector from Two to Four Years,' be approved?"
This article shall supersede Town Law § 24 relating to the term of office for the Supervisor and Town Clerk of the Town of Lumberland.
