The stated maximum height shall not apply to any of the following structures when lawfully existing, permitted or permissible in the district:
A. 
Chimneys, spires, belfries, cupolas, domes and silos.
B. 
Flagpoles or radio or television antennas, located on a building and extending not more than 20 feet above the roof of such building.
C. 
Elevator and stair bulkheads, provided that such structures do not occupy more than 10% of the roof area.
D. 
Solar energy systems not more than 1/2 story above the roof of such building.
E. 
Noncommercial wind energy conversion systems pursuant to § 140-108.
F. 
Water towers and tanks.
G. 
Observation towers.
H. 
Clock towers.
I. 
Communication towers pursuant to § 140-109.
The following lists features that may be located within any required setbacks, subject to the specific limitations of this chapter:
A. 
Trees, shrubs, flowers, fences, walls, hedges and other landscape features within any required setback.
B. 
Statuary, arbors, trellises and barbecue stoves within any required setback.
C. 
Awnings and canopies within any required setback.
D. 
Bay windows and balconies projecting not more than 36 inches from an exterior wall for a distance not more than 1/3 of the length of such wall, provided that such projections shall come entirely within planes drawn from the main corners of the building at an interior angle of 22 1/2° within the wall in question.
E. 
Chimneys, flues, belt courses, leaders, silos, pilasters, lintels, ornamental features, cornices, eaves, gutters and the like, projecting not more than 18 inches from an exterior wall.
F. 
Fire escapes or outside stairways projecting from an exterior wall not more than three feet.
G. 
Flagpoles within any required setback.
H. 
Nonmechanical laundry-drying equipment, except in front yards.
I. 
Patios and terraces, except in front yards.
J. 
Recreational equipment, except in front yards.
K. 
Solar collectors within any required setback.
