Any member of the Fire Department in good standing may, for good and sufficient reasons, apply in writing to the Chief for a leave of absence, not to exceed six months at one time, which application the Chief shall submit to the Council and which shall become effective only on the approval of the Council. When the Chief desires leave of absence, he shall apply in writing therefor directly to the Council.[1]

Any member in good standing desiring to resign from the Fire Department must submit his resignation, in writing, to the Chief, who shall submit the same to the Council, and the same shall become effective only on the approval of the Council. The resignation of the Chief shall be directly to the Council.
