Except in necessary defense of person and property and except as provided in § 6-502 of this Part, it shall be unlawful for any person to discharge any firearm within the Township of Susquehanna, County of Dauphin, within 150 yards of any residence or other building that is occupied or could be occupied by human beings or animals, or within 150 yards of any attached or detached playground of any school, nursery school or daycare center.

This Part shall not apply to:
A. 
Persons licensed to hunt in this Commonwealth while actually engaged in hunting where permitted under the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
B. 
Member of any organization or incorporation, engaged in target shooting at a dedicated range upon the grounds or property belonging to or under the control of such organization or corporation. The area encompassed by this organization shall be not less than five acres and no discharge of any firearm shall be less than 150 yards from any other occupied building or structure not under the control or ownership of said corporation or organization.
C. 
Law enforcement officers engaged in the discharge of their official duties.

For purposes of this Part, firearms shall be defined as an instrument used in the propulsion of shot, bullets or other projectiles by the action of gunpowder exploded.
2. 
A dedicated range shall be an area established for the express purpose of firearms target shooting, having defined shooting positions and an appropriate backstop, and operated at all times so as to assure the public safety. The backstop shall be constructed so that no projectile can travel more than 15 yards beyond the target aimed at, after making due allowance for deflection in any direction not to exceed[1] an angle of 45°.

Any person who shall violate any provision of this Part shall, upon conviction thereof, be sentenced to pay a fine of not more than $600 and/or imprisonment for a term not to exceed 90 days.
