GENERAL REFERENCES

Parks and recreation — See Ch. 359.
The objectives and aims of the Recreation Advisory Committee shall be to concentrate efforts to provide the following:
A. 
Recommend and aid in the implementation of a recreation activity program(s) to meet the broad spectrum of the community for all age groups and for the total makeup of the community.
B. 
Survey the community for suggestions relative to playgrounds and recreation.
C. 
Promote recreation programs and activities in the community to encourage support and participation.
D. 
Propose and encourage the development of new facilities and encourage maximum utilization of existing facilities.
E. 
Help to develop ongoing standards for field and facility usage.
F. 
Recommend planned development of recreational fields and facilities.
A. 
The recommended membership shall consist of no more than 11 voting members, to include a Selectman and School Board member.
B. 
The Recreation Director or designee, as appointed by the Recreation Director, shall serve as ex officio member with no voting privileges.
C. 
Appointment.
(1) 
The Salem Board of Selectmen appoints Recreation Advisory Committee members in staggered terms of three years. Selectmen representatives are appointed on an annual basis.
(2) 
The Board of Selectmen shall be notified in writing to issue a call for candidates when a position becomes vacant by a member.
(3) 
The new member who is replacing the resigning member will finish the remaining term of that individual.
