[Ord. No. 45,
§ 300, eff. 10-15-1973; Ord. No. 45-10, eff. 12-24-1998]
For township approval of sanitary sewer systems, the applicant
shall furnish the township department of public works a detailed estimate
of cost and two sets of the sanitary sewer plans including the general
plan, for the system on which he desires approval, and specifications.
The township department of public works shall collect the review fee
and refer the plans to the township engineers, who shall check the
estimate and review the plans for conformity to the standards set
forth herein, and certify that they are consistent with the overall
utility plans of the township, after which they will comment on the
plans conformity with township standards and accepted engineering
practices. The applicant, after making any changes requested shall
then submit two sets of the revised plans to the township, for final
approval. The township engineer shall then review these plans for
conformity to the comments mentioned heretofore, and if they have
been properly made, will request 10 copies for submittal to public
agencies for construction permits.
[Ord. No. 45,
§§ 300, 301, eff. 10-15-1973; Ord. No. 45-10, eff. 12-24-1998]
(a) The following notes pertaining to the sanitary sewers shall appear
on the plans:
(1)
Footing or foundation drains of any building or structure shall
not be connected to the sanitary sewer.
(2)
Downspouts or any conduit, that carries stormwater or groundwater,
shall not be allowed to discharge into the sanitary sewer.
(3)
No sewer installation or portion thereof shall have an infiltration
exceeding 100 gallons per inch diameter per mile of pipe per twenty-four-hour
period.
(4)
Concrete pipe wye openings shall include a factory installed
pipe bell of the same type as the proposed house lead sewer. All concrete
pipe with wye openings shall be class 4 or higher, as specified on
township standard sanitary sewer details and specifications.
(5)
Township standard details and specifications, as adopted by
township board resolution from time to time are incorporated as part
of these standards.
(6)
Taps to existing manholes shall be made with the "Kor-N-Seal"
method, with a watertight rubber boot.
(7)
For the purpose of testing infiltration, a temporary twelve-inch
deep sump shall be provided in the first new manhole above the connection
manhole to the existing system. After successful completion of the
infiltration test, fill the temporary sump to the standard flow channel
cross section. At all connection manholes to existing sewers, provide
a watertight bulkhead in the new sewer with a one-inch diameter pipe
through the bulkhead for measuring infiltration immediately upstream
to the sump manhole.
(8)
No footings for buildings shall be constructed until the sanitary
sewer lead has been extended into the proposed building envelope.
(b) All sets of plans which include plans for sanitary sewer shall include
the current township sanitary sewer detail sheets which shall be considered
an inseparable part of the plans when such plans are approved.
(c) Prior to starting any sanitary sewer design, the applicant may make
use of maps and information available at the township offices. It
shall be the responsibility of the applicant to verify utility locations
provided by the township. Use of the township sanitary sewers is prohibited
without prior permission from the superintendent of the township sanitary
sewer department and may result in confiscation of equipment or fines.
(d) The following table of minimum slopes for sanitary sewers shall be
adhered to:

Note: In the township the minimum allowable size of a sanitary
lateral is normally 10 inches in diameter. With approval of the superintendent
of the township sewer department and the township engineer, an eight-inch
sanitary sewer may be considered.
|
(e) The building service lead from the lateral sewer to serve the building
shall be a minimum of six inches in diameter. Sanitary sewer leads
shall be centered on lots at the easement line.
(f) Each condominium unit shall have a separate sanitary lead. Each unit
in commercial, industrial, or office multiunit developments shall
have a separate sanitary lead. Sanitary leads shall be constructed
such that they do not cross the building envelope of another unit.
(g) Unless otherwise approved by the superintendent of the township sewer
department, sanitary sewer manholes shall be spaced out not more than
350 feet apart. Inspection manholes shall be provided on leads to
industrial buildings and as determined necessary by the superintendent
of the township sewer department or the township engineer. In general,
sanitary sewers shall not be approved in rear or side lot easements.
Sanitary sewer manholes shall be of precast construction with modified
grooved tongue with rubber gasket. Frames shall be bolted to the manhole
with rubber rings. Manhole covers shall be gastight and mortar used
shall be the nonshrink type.
(h) Paved access to manholes shall be provided where a manhole cannot
be readily accessed. Where a ditch exists, a culvert with end sections
shall be provided to maintain flow.
(i) The sewer profile shall indicate the length of run between each manhole,
the type of sewer pipe, the size and slope of the sewer between manholes,
and any type of special bedding required. Top elevations and sizes
of all manholes shall be indicated.
(j) A minimum depth from top of curb (or road centerline) to the top
of any sanitary sewer of 8 1/2 feet at local control points,
or a minimum of nine feet at locations where the sewer grade is parallel
to the road grade shall be provided. In all cases the sewer shall
be deep enough to serve, by gravity, a standard depth basement except
in specific locations where the receiving sewer limits the available
depth. Hung plumbing will not be allowed without prior approval of
the superintendent of the township sewer department.
(k) Each wye or end of house connection shall have a watertight plug
with the same type of joint as the service line.
(l) Allowable types of sewer pipe and joints shall be as designated in
current township standards and shall be covered on the plan profile
or by note where applicable.
(m) Exterior grease/oil interceptors, in accordance with township standard
sanitary details, shall be installed for all restaurants, food service
establishments, gas stations, auto service areas or repair facilities
and on all other businesses as determined by the superintendent of
the township sewer department or the township engineer.
(n) Sanitary sewer plans shall include calculations for the sanitary
sewer basis of design. For residential flows, peaking factor shall
be calculated as:
|
Where P = Population of service area.
|
---|
|
|
(o) Size, quantity, and location data charts shall be included on sanitary
sewer plans.
(p) Design engineer shall complete and submit MDEQ Part 41 of Act 451
permit applications.
