This Charter shall be submitted to a vote of the electors of
the inhabitants of the Town of Bridgeton at a special election to
be held Tuesday, October 25, 1966. The election shall be administered
by the officials of the City now charged with the responsibility for
the conduct of City elections, and the ballot shall be in substantially

Shall the proposed Charter for the Inhabitants of the Town of
Bridgeton, drafted by the Bridgeton Charter Commission be adopted?
|
|

Place an "X" in the square opposite the one (1) for which you
wish to vote.
|
If this Charter be approved it shall become effective immediately
for the purpose of nomination of candidates for Councilmen, Mayor,
and Municipal Judge, the conduct of the municipal election to fill
said offices on April 4, 1967 and for the transition provided For
all other purposes the provisions of this Charter shall become effective
upon the induction into office of the Councilmen, Mayor, and Municipal
Judge elected at said election.
All nominations for candidates for offices to be filled at the
election of April 4, 1967, shall be by petition as provided in this
Charter. The first (1st) election following the adoption of the new
Charter shall be conducted on the basis of existing ward boundaries.
The Mayor, Councilmen and Municipal Judge in office at the date
this Charter is adopted shall continue in office until after the election
of April 4, 1967, and shall within forty-eight (48) hours thereafter,
canvass the returns of the election, declare the results thereof,
and provide for the administration of the oath of office to the newly
elected Mayor, judge and Councilmen. Thereupon, the terms of office
of the incumbent Mayor, Councilmen and Municipal Judge shall terminate.
All officers, employees, and members of City boards and commissions
at the time of the adoption of this Charter shall continue in office
and in the performance of their duties until their successors have
been selected or qualified, or until such offices have been abolished,
or the duties thereof shall be otherwise provided for in accordance
with the provisions of the Charter.
The purpose of the foregoing schedule is to provide a transition
from the present government of the town to the new government provided
for in this Charter and to inaugurate the new government under the
provisions of this Charter. It shall constitute a part of this Charter
only to the extent and for the time required to accomplish this aim.
