The Police of the City may be appointed in such numbers, for such times and in such manner as may be prescribed by ordinance. They shall have power to serve and execute all warrants, subpoenas, writs or other process and to make arrests in the same manner as the Marshal. They may exercise such powers in areas leased or owned by the municipality outside of the boundaries of such municipality. The Marshal and Policemen shall be conservators of the peace and shall be active and vigilant in the preservation of good order within the City.

The Mayor of said City shall have power at any time when the Board of Aldermen is not in session to appoint such special Police as may be necessary for the preservation of the peace of the City and to enforce the health regulations of the City, provided that the Mayor shall, at the next regular meeting of the Board of Aldermen, present the names of such appointees to said Board for their approval. It shall be unlawful hereafter for any other officer to appoint any regular Policeman.
The Board of Aldermen of the City may by ordinance enter into a contract or agreement with any other political subdivision for the provision of Police services by one political subdivision to another on request as provided for in Section 70.815, RSMo. The terms "Chief of Police", "Police", "Police Officer" and "Police Department", as used herein, shall refer to Law Enforcement Officers of the contracting entity.

In accordance with State Statutes adopted in the year of 1993, it is hereby determined that the qualification for City Police Officers shall remain at one hundred twenty (120) hours certification, instead of that now provided by State law.

A. 
Any Reserve Police Officer appointed by the City of Versailles shall operate only under direct and constant supervision of a duly certified regular officer unless hereafter authorized by the Chief of Police.
B. 
The Chief of Police of the City of Versailles shall not authorize any Reserve Police Officer to work without direct and constant supervision unless said Reserve Police Officer has the following qualifications:
1. 
A certification to include successful completion of the one hundred twenty (120) hour certification course; and
2. 
A minimum of one hundred (100) hours service time as a Reserve Officer for this City after appointment as such.
