There is hereby created the position of Deputy Tax Assessor for the Township of Chester.
A. 
Under the direction of the Tax Assessor on a regular and recurring basis, the Deputy Tax Assessor shall plan, organize, manage and coordinate various activities of the office in accordance with state and local laws, rules, regulation and policies and perform such other functions as may be required by N.J.S.A. The Deputy Tax Assessor shall also perform other related work as required.
B. 
During the absence or disability of the Tax Assessor, the Deputy Tax Assessor shall have all the powers of the Tax Assessor and shall perform the functions and duties of such office.
C. 
To be appointed to the position of Deputy Tax Assessor, an individual must possess a tax assessor certificate as provided for by N.J.S.A. 40A:9-148.1.
The Deputy Tax Assessor shall be appointed by the Township Council for a term of four years commencing on July 1 of the year of appointment ending on December 31 of the fourth year or until a successor shall be appointed and qualified. A vacancy in the office of Deputy Tax Assessor other than due to the expiration of the term shall be filled by appointment.
