The Municipal Judge shall be appointed. The Municipal Judge shall be appointed by the Mayor, subject to approval by the Board of Aldermen. The Municipal Judge shall have exclusive jurisdiction to hear and determine all offenses against the ordinances of the City.

The Municipal Judge shall be at least twenty-one (21) years of age and shall not have reached the age of seventy-five (75) years; shall not be required to be a resident of the City; shall be an attorney licensed to practice in the State of Missouri, and shall not hold any other City office.

The Municipal Judge shall be appointed for a term of two (2) years, commensurate with the term of the Mayor, and shall hold office until his/her successor has been duly appointed.

The office of alternate Municipal Judge is hereby created, and the Mayor, with the consent and approval of a majority of the members of the Board of Aldermen, shall have the power to appoint a person to that office who shall have the same qualifications, who shall have the same jurisdiction, and who shall have an appointment for the same term as provided for the Municipal Judge in Sections 135.180, 135.190 and 135.200 of the Code of Ordinances of this City.

The Municipal Judge shall receive, as compensation for service in this office, an amount as set by ordinance from time to time, providing he/she shall attend and preside over at least one (1) Court session each month. In the absence of the Municipal Judge or by reason of his/her illness or other inability to serve and preside at a regularly scheduled session of the Municipal Court, the compensation for the Municipal Judge shall be set by the Board by ordinance and the alternate Municipal Judge, if he/she shall sit for that session in the place and stead of the Municipal Judge, shall receive for his/her services the sum as set by the Board by ordinance for that month. If the alternate Municipal Judge shall not sit for a Court session in a given month, he/she shall receive no compensation for that month.
