The duties of the Marshal are hereby assumed by the Chief of Police, appointed by the Mayor with the approval of a majority of the Board of Aldermen from a list of eligible candidates submitted by the Police Personnel Board.

The Mayor with the approval of a majority of the members of the Board of Aldermen shall appoint a Chief of Police who shall perform all duties required of the Marshal by law and any other Police Officers found by the Board of Aldermen to be necessary for the good government of the City. The Chief of Police shall be twenty-one (21) years of age or older.

The Chief of Police shall be the executive head of the Police Department and shall be responsible for and have authority to establish such rules of control over all personnel as he/she shall deem necessary to conserve the peace and preserve good order within the City.
