The City Attorney shall be appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the Council and shall serve at the pleasure of the Mayor and the Council.
The attorney shall be a person licensed to practice law in the State of Missouri.

A. 
It shall be the duty of the City Attorney to prosecute on behalf of the City all offenders charged with violations of this Code or other ordinances of the City. The City Attorney shall represent the City in all actions originating in the Municipal Court of the City and in any subsequent court to which an appeal may be taken. It shall be the duty of the City Attorney to collect all delinquent merchants' and occupation licenses and City licenses of any kind or character whatsoever, whenever he/she may be called upon to do so by the Mayor, the City Council or the City Collector.
B. 
It shall be the duty of the City Attorney to attend Council meetings and, when requested, to draw all City ordinances and all of the papers of, and attend to any or all legal matters for, the City, when requested so to do by the Mayor and City Council, and advise the Mayor and Council and all other City Officers as to the law pertaining to City affairs, when requested so to do.

The compensation of the City Attorney shall be fixed from time to time by the City Council.
