The Borough of Kenhorst reserves the right to designate, by ordinance, the official volunteer fire department for the Borough of Kenhorst.
The Borough of Kenhorst hereby designates Kenhorst Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 as the official municipal fire department for the Borough of Kenhorst.
Immediately after passage of this article, and annually thereafter, during the month of January, Kenhorst Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 shall nominate and appoint, with the consent of the Borough Council, a Fire Chief and a Deputy or Assistant Fire Chief for the fire company so designated, who shall hold office for the term of one year or until his successor is duly elected and approved.
Upon being elected, and approved by the Borough Council, the Fire Chief and Deputy or Assistant Fire Chief shall be sworn and execute an oath of office as provided by law.
The designation of the official fire department for the Borough of Kenhorst and the approval of the appointment of the Fire Chief and the Deputy or Assistant Fire Chief as provided herein shall not in any way be construed or is to impose any liability, obligation or control over the Kenhorst Fire Department by the Borough of Kenhorst.

All persons, when authorized by the Kenhorst Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, who are engaged in activities unrelated to firefighting, including fund-raising activities, for the benefit of the Kenhorst Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, shall be entitled to the same benefits under the Workers' Compensation Act as provided for volunteer firefighters, whether or not said persons are minors.
