No person shall stand or park and no person shall allow, permit
or suffer any vehicle registered in his name to stand or park in any
of the following places:
A.
Within an intersection.
B.
Upon any sidewalk.
C.
Upon any crosswalk.
D.
Within the last 20 feet approaching a crosswalk unless an authorized
parking space is marked.
E.
Upon any roadway in a rural or sparsely settled district.
F.
Upon a roadway where parking is permitted unless both wheels on the
right side of the vehicle are within 12 inches of the curb or edge
of the roadway, except upon those streets which are designated as
one-way streets. On such one-way streets, vehicles shall be parked
in the direction in which such vehicle is moving and with both wheels
within 12 inches of the curb. This shall not apply to streets or parts
of streets where angle parking is required by this chapter.
G.
Upon any roadway where the parking of a vehicle will not leave a
clear and unobstructed lane at least 10 feet wide for passing traffic.
H.
Upon any street or highway within 10 feet of a fire hydrant.
I.
Upon or in front of any private road or driveway.
J.
Upon any street or highway within 20 feet of an intersecting way,
except alleys.
K.
Along the curbline in front of the City lots upon which are erected
fire and police stations, and the area on the opposite side of the
street therefrom, where designated along the curbline and when designated
by official signs.
L.
At any curb adjacent to the entrances of a church, school, hotel,
hospital, bus terminal, theater, public building or place of public
assemblage where official signs are erected, except for receiving
or discharging passengers.
M.
Within any construction zone.

No person shall park a vehicle within 20 feet of either end
of a safety zone which is located within 30 feet of the curb or edge
of the roadway.
No parking shall be allowed within any construction zone that
has been properly posted and notice to residents within the construction
zone has occurred. Notice shall be posted and distributed three days
prior to the parking prohibition taking effect. The hours, days of
the week and duration of the parking prohibition shall be included
on the posting.

No person shall park a taxicab upon any street within a business
district at any place other than the taxicab stand or stands designated
for the use of the taxicab except while engaged, or while waiting
for an opportunity to use a taxicab stand designated for his/her use.
No person shall park a vehicle upon any street in any service
zone or loading zone for a period of time longer than 15 minutes,
except while actually engaged in loading or unloading, provided that
such loading or unloading does not exceed a period of time longer
than 1/2 hour.

No trucks used in the transportation or collection of garbage
or refuse shall be parked on any street within the City except when
such truck is actually collecting garbage or refuse within the City.

It shall be unlawful for any person to park upon a street or
highway any vehicle displayed for sale.

A.
No person driving or in charge of a motor truck or any vehicle shall
stop the same in the public streets, ways or bridges of the City,
where traffic might be interfered with, to unload, deliver, load or
pick up things, except where parking is unrestricted or in an official
parking space, unless the driver has in his/her possession a license
from the Chief of Police authorizing such stops. Licenses may be granted
to owners or drivers of such vehicles to stop in the public streets,
ways and bridges of the City for such purposes for a time specified
therein or to back against the curb at any specified time. It will
be illegal to park trucks, trailers, tractors, tractor-trailers and
campers any time between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. on
any street within the City.

No person shall park or stand any vehicle on a way abutting
the property line of any church, funeral home, residence or other
building where, and during the time, funeral services are being conducted
therein, or for a period of one hour before such funeral services
are to begin, provided that temporary signs are placed on the sidewalk
or curb indicating the space to be kept free from parking. It shall
be the duty of the funeral director having charge of or conducting
the funeral to furnish and timely deploy the necessary signs so to
be used. Said signs shall meet with the approval of the Taunton Police
Department in advance. The hearse and such necessary vehicles for
the conveyance of the family, relatives and friends of the deceased,
as designated by the funeral director in charge, may park in said
space, the above prohibition notwithstanding. The term funeral services
as used herein shall include calling hours immediately preceding and
on the same day as the funeral, and the funeral procession, but shall
not otherwise include a wake or calling hours. This section does not
authorize parking where parking is otherwise prohibited. It shall
be the duty of the funeral director to remove said signs from a location
as soon as practicable upon the conclusion of funeral services at
such location.

A.
Authority to establish fire lanes.
(1)
The Fire Chief or designated representative is hereby authorized
to establish fire lanes on private property devoted to the public
use in the City of Taunton or on such other private property where
such designation shall reasonably be deemed necessary to allow for
the access of fire apparatus or emergency equipment for the protection
of public safety. The Fire Chief or designated representative shall
establish the specific locations and dimensions of all fire lanes
so designated based upon the following criteria:
(a)
The nature of the use of the premises so designated;
(b)
The volume of automobile traffic on or near the designated premises;
(c)
The size and type of fire apparatus and emergency equipment
available and necessary to protect the premises; and
(d)
The size of the land and building space to be protected.
(2)
Fire lanes shall also be established within necessary areas surrounding
post indicator valves, hydrants, Fire Department connections, and
exits from parking areas, driveways, public buildings, and other areas
of public ingress and egress based upon the above-mentioned criteria.
(3)
Upon designation of a fire lane, the Fire Chief shall give a notice
of such designation to the owner of such area directing the owner
to post signs at his/her expense lettered "Fire Lane - No Parking
Any Time." Such signs shall be of standard lettering and mounting
conforming to specifications of the Fire Chief.
B.
No person shall park or leave unattended his/her motor vehicle within
any part of an area posted and marked as a fire lane in any parking
area or parking lot, public or private, within the City, nor shall
any person obstruct a private way with a vehicle or other means so
as to prevent access of fire apparatus or emergency equipment to any
building.
C.
Any person violating this section shall be punished by a fine of
$30 for each offense, and the vehicle so parked may be towed from
the area at the owner's expense.
D.
Paintings; markings; maintenance of fire lanes. All fire lanes (pavement
and curbing) shall be painted and marked in a manner approved by the
Fire Chief or designated representative.
(1)
Color of paint shall be safety yellow.
(2)
Striping shall be a minimum width of four inches.
(3)
Lettering shall be a minimum width of two inches.
(4)
Striping shall be diagonal.
(5)
Top and sides of curbing shall be painted safety yellow.
(6)
Fire lane striping, lettering and signs shall be maintained as needed
but no less than annually.

side of Cohannet Street, 15 feet west of crosswalk at Cohannet Street

Upon the following streets or parts of streets which have been
marked for angle parking, vehicles shall be parked with the wheels
within 12 inches of the curb at the angle to the curb indicated by
such marks or official signs. The vehicle shall be parked so that
all four wheels of the vehicle shall be placed wholly within the painted
lines provided.

Except as hereinafter provided, all motorbuses providing public
transportation receiving or discharging passengers in the City, in
addition to those places at which passengers are currently received
or discharged, shall use as a place at which to receive and discharge
passengers the Bloom Bus Terminal on Oak Street. This section shall
not apply, however, to motorbuses receiving or discharging school
children going to or coming from school, nor to the receiving or discharging
of prearranged groups of persons chartering a motorbus.

Except as hereinafter provided, no motorbus that receives or
discharges passengers in the City shall be permitted to stop in a
public way for more than five minutes. This section shall not apply,
however, to motorbuses receiving or discharging school children going
to or coming from school. This section further exempts the Greater
Taunton-Attleboro Regional Transit Authority except for areas within
a radius of one mile from Taunton Green.

Buses shall comply with the following regulations concerning
stops:
A.
East Taunton bus. No stops for incoming buses between City Hall and
the regular stand in front of the Taylor Building. No stops for outgoing
buses between the Taylor Building stand and City Hall except one momentary
stop at a point near the municipal clock.
B.
Kilmer Avenue bus. No stopping of incoming buses between the police
station on Court Street and the bus terminal on Taunton Green; then
no further stops until this bus reaches its regular stand on the northerly
side of Taunton Green adjacent to the Superior Court House.
C.
New Bedford bus. No stops between City Hall and bus terminal for
incoming buses and only one stop at bus terminal for outgoing buses.
D.
Southbound buses. No stops between Pleasant Street and the bus terminal.
E.
Southbound outgoing buses. No stops between the bus terminal and
Galligan's Court.
F.

G.
All buses making use of the premises at No. 13 Taunton Green as a
bus stop. No bus shall park or stand parallel to the premises at No.
13 Taunton Green except for the purpose of allowing the boarding or
alighting of passengers. At no time shall the driver or attendant
of a bus leave the bus while standing at said location except for
the processing of passengers or in the event of an emergency. Said
location shall be designated by a sign "Bus Stop Only."

A.
Authorization of police. The moving or towing of any vehicle under
the provisions of this section shall be by and at the direction of
the Chief of Police or such other officer(s) of the rank of Sergeant
or higher as the Chief may from time to time designate.
C.
Liability for damage during removal or storage. The contractor shall
be liable to the owner for any damage arising out of negligence caused
to a vehicle in the course of removal and storage.
D.
General prohibition towing zones. No person shall stand or park or allow, permit or suffer any vehicle registered in his/her name to stand or park in any of the following places. Vehicles found in violation of the provisions of this subsection, except those specifically exempt by law, shall be removed to a convenient place under the direction of any officer of the Police Department, and the owner of the vehicle so removed or towed away shall be liable to the cost of such removal and storage, if any, as set in Subsection B of this section. The owner of any vehicle removed or towed away under the provisions of this subsection shall also be subject to the penalties provided in § 405-22.
(1)
Upon any way in such a manner as to impede the removal or plowing
of snow or ice, except vehicles parked in accordance with approved
regulations governing all-night parking.
(2)
Upon any sidewalk.
(3)
Upon any crosswalk.
(4)
Upon any way within 20 feet of an intersecting way except alleys.
(5)
Upon a way within 10 feet of a fire hydrant.
(6)
On the roadway side of any vehicle stopped or parked at the edge
or curb of the way.
(7)
In front of a public or private driveway.
(8)
Upon any way where the parking of a vehicle will not leave a clear
and unobstructed lane at least 10 feet wide for passing traffic.
E.
Parking prohibitions; towing zone. No person shall stand or park or allow, permit or suffer any vehicle registered in his name to stand or park in any bus stop or on any of the ways or parts of ways hereinafter described and during the periods of time set forth. Vehicles found in violation of the provisions of this subsection, except those specifically exempted by law, shall be removed to a convenient place under the direction of an officer of the Police Department, and the owner of the vehicle so removed or towed away shall be liable to the cost of such removal and storage, if any, as set forth in Subsection B of this section. The owner of any vehicle removed or towed away under the provisions of this subsection shall also be subject to the penalties provided in § 405-22.

F.
Official traffic signs. The provisions of the preceding subsection
shall be effective only during such time as a sufficient number of
official traffic signs bearing the legend "Tow-Away Zone" are installed,
erected, maintained and located so as to be visible to approaching
drivers, said signs to be appended above or incorporated into the
legend of parking prohibition signs.
G.
Police to keep record of towed vehicles. The Police Department shall
keep a record of all vehicles towed or removed under the provisions
of this section. Such record shall be retained for one year and shall
contain the following information:
A.
No person shall park a motor vehicle, unless so authorized, in any
parking space clearly identified as reserved for handicapped persons,
or for vehicles used to transport handicapped persons or for disabled
veterans, located on street, or in off-street parking lots, or in
off-street parking areas for businesses, auditoriums, sporting or
recreational facilities, or cultural centers, where the public has
a right of access as invitees or licensees, or in any other parking
facilities as determined by the Architectural Access Board.
B.
No penalty shall be imposed upon any individual with a disability
whose vehicle bears the distinctive plates, decal or other identification
authorized by MGL c. 90, § 2, provided that said vehicle
is used for the transportation of a handicapped person, for parking
such vehicle on any way for a longer period of time than permitted
by ordinance, bylaw, rules or regulations, nor shall any additional
fee be exacted, nor shall a penalty be imposed for the parking of
the aforementioned motor vehicles.

A.
Restricted; decals. No one shall park in the parking lot within the
Taunton High School grounds nearest the office of the Superintendent
of Schools and so designated by proper signs unless specifically authorized
by the Superintendent of Schools, who is hereby authorized to issue
decals to be affixed to motor vehicles so authorized.
B.
Evidence of violation. The absence of such a decal shall be prima
facie evidence that the motor vehicle is not authorized to be parked
in said lot.
C.
Penalty. Each violation of this section shall be punishable by a
fine of $10.

A.
Prohibition; exception. Except for emergency vehicles, no one shall
park or permit to be parked a vehicle on a street or way less than
40 feet in width directly across from a driveway or other way or in
any other manner which obstructs or impedes or endangers the safe
ingress or egress to and from such driveway.
B.
Penalty for violation. Violation of this section shall be punishable
by a fine of up to $50. The Police Department may cause vehicles parked
in violation of this section to be removed at the owner's expense.

No person shall cause to be parked on a public way or public
property any vehicle that is required to be inspected pursuant to
MGL c. 90 which displays an inspection sticker that is more than one
month expired. Any vehicle so parked shall be cited under this section
for a fine of $50. Each day the vehicle remains uninspected and parked
in violation of this section shall constitute a separate offense.
