No person shall park a vehicle within a parking meter space unless such vehicle is wholly within the painted lines adjacent to such meter.

Whenever any vehicle shall be parking adjacent to a parking meter or within a parking meter zone, the owner or operator of such vehicle shall park within the space designated, upon entering such space shall immediately deposit in such meter/kiosk the required amount of United States currency or credit for the maximum legal parking period both as indicated or shown on the meter/kiosk and, if required, set the mechanism in motion.
No person shall deposit or cause to be deposited in a parking meter any coin for the purpose of permitting the vehicle of which the person is in charge to remain in a parking space beyond the maximum period of time allowed in a particular space or zone.

No person shall tamper with, break, injure or destroy any parking meter or kiosk, or deposit or cause to be deposited in such meter/kiosk any slug, device or metallic substance or any other substitute for the currency or credit required.[1]

No person shall park a vehicle between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on any of the streets hereinafter designated on any day for a period of time exceeding that assigned to its designated zone by the following section. This restriction shall not apply on Sundays or legal holidays.

The Chief of Police shall install meters or parking kiosks within the areas described in this article or cause the same to be installed. Meters shall be placed at intervals of not less than 20 feet apart and not less than 12 nor more than 24 inches from the face of the curb adjacent to individual meter spaces. Kiosks shall be installed with each on-street kiosk configured for no more than 12 spaces per kiosk.

A. 
The Chief of Police shall establish metered spaces in such parking meter/kiosk zones as are herein specified, or as may be hereafter fixed by ordinance, and shall indicate the same by white markings upon the surface of the highway.
B. 
Nothing contained in this article shall be construed to prohibit the Municipal Council from making provisions for bus stops, taxicab stands, and service and loading zones as authorized by other sections of this chapter on any street or portion of a street which has been or may be hereafter designated herein as a parking meter/kiosk zone.

The fee for the maximum parking time shall be $0.25 for every interval of 20 minutes or any portion thereof. All credit card transactions will require a minimum purchase of $1.

A. 
Operators of commercial vehicles may park in a metered space without depositing a coin for an unlimited period of time while actually performing services in a nearby establishment. This exemption for such vehicles shall apply only when the operator is performing such services.
B. 
A prior permit authorizing this exemption must be obtained from the Chief of Police.

The Chief of Police shall collect money deposited in parking meters/kiosks or cause the same to be collected. Such money shall be deposited forthwith with the City Treasurer/Collector in a separate account to be known as the "City of Taunton Parking Meter Account."

All fees received by the City Treasurer/Collector from the operation of parking meters/kiosks shall be used as authorized by MGL c. 40.

A. 
The City of Taunton Parking Commission shall establish rules for off-street parking for all municipally owned parking lots and facilities, to include parking passes and hours of operation.
B. 
The City of Taunton Parking Commission shall set rates for parking and electric charging stations at all municipally owned parking lots in the City of Taunton, subject to approval of the Municipal Council.
C. 
Vehicles illegally parked in a permitted location within a municipally owned parking lot or facility will be subject to a fine and towing at the owner's expense.

Parking in excess of the time limit allowed in the respective off-street parking areas shall be deemed a violation of the provisions of this article.
