(a) 
It shall be unlawful for children under the age of seventeen (17) years, of either sex, to be on or about the streets, highways, sidewalks or public places of the city between 11:55 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights and between 10:55 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. on all other nights of the week, unless in bona fide search of a physician or unless accompanied by their parent, legally appointed guardian or other authorized adult custodian of such minors.
(b) 
The provisions of this section shall not apply to any minor having a permit issued by the police department of the city authorizing him to be upon the public streets, highways, sidewalks and in public places of the city during such hours for legitimate purposes.

No parent, guardian or other persons having legal custody of a child under the age of seventeen (17) years shall allow or permit such child to be on or about the streets, highways, sidewalks or other public places of the city between the hours prohibited in section 16-16 unless accompanied by such parent, guardian or other person having legal custody of such minor child or unless such minor child shall fall within the exceptions provided by section 16-16.

If any child is found violating any of the provisions of section 16-16, a warning notice shall be given to the parent, guardian or other person having legal custody of such child. Thereafter, any such child or the parent, guardian or person having legal custody thereof shall be deemed to be guilty of a violation of this article after the second infraction or violation of section 16-16, in which event such parent, guardian or persons having legal custody of such minor child or children shall be subject to punishment as provided in section 1-10 of this Code, and such minor child shall be arrested and turned over to the juvenile authorities of the county for prosecution for violation of this article in accordance with the laws of the state.
