No person shall set any fire upon any land in the Town of Pittsfield
without first contacting the Tri-County Fire Department or Brown County
Sheriff nonemergency dispatch, except for cooking food.
It is allowed to burn rubbish in a barrel, trash can or other enclosed
burner if heavy wire screen or cover is used to prevent burning material
or embers from blowing out.
Any person who shall set fire to any land and allow such fire to
escape and become a forest fire shall be liable for all expenses incurred
in the suppression of such fire by the state or town in which such
fire occurs.
Editor's Note: Original § 3.003A, the definition of "all fire department operations," which immediately preceded this subsection, was repealed at time of adoption of Code (see Ch. 1, General Provisions, Art. II).
The Town shall charge the landowner, and the landowner shall pay
the Town, the actual cost incurred by the Town for fire protection,
rescue effort, and/or alarm responses.
In the event the actual cost remains unpaid after 90 days following
billing, the charges shall be placed on the landowner's property bill
as a special charge pursuant to Wisconsin Statutes § 66.0627,
as amended, and shall become a lien on the property as may be provided
by law.
